Pennsylvania State Mandated Examinations
Physicals - Kindergarten, 6th grade and 11th grade students: The School Health Law requires medical examinations for these students. We recommend that your family health care provider do this examination since he/she can best evaluate your child’s health and assist you in obtaining necessary treatments and/or corrections. Private physicals done by your family health care provider cannot be administered any earlier than one year prior to the first day of the school year for that grade. Sports physicals or drivers physicals done during the school year will also be accepted.
PIAA Sports physicals will be done the first week of June in school. A health care provider from the Watsontown Family Practice Center will be performing the exams at a date to be announced. Paperwork, including signed permission, and the appropriate Activity Fee must be completed in order for the physical to be done. These physicals can always be done by your private physician and the form is available under additional information on the right.
Dentals - Kindergarten, 3rd & 7th grade students: The School Health Law requires dental examinations for these students. We recommend that your family dentist do this examination since he/she can best evaluate your child’s dental care and assist you in obtaining necessary treatments and/or corrections. Private dentals done by your family health care provider cannot be administered any earlier than one year prior to the first day of the school year for that grade.
Scoliosis - The School Health Law requires scoliosis screening for 6th and 7th grades. Scoliosis is a curvature of the spine. If a student has not had this assessment completed by their private physician, the screenings will be completed by the school nurse and physical education instructors upon parent/guardian consent.
Health care plans are to be completed in collaboration with parents and their health care provider for any student with diabetes, seizures, food or bee sting allergies, asthma, or any other health concern that may impact their learning at school. Should a student require a medication while at school, the medication form must be completed as per school policy (See additional information on right for forms).
Don't forget all medications need to be picked up by a parent on or before the last day of school! Those not picked up will be discarded!
